Strategic Plan Goal: ENGAGE - Provide benefits and services to support member success.
Awards and Recognitions – Recognize and award members for exceptional service to optometry and the association.
Committee Membership Responsibilities
Expected Timeline: Awards should be decided on by February before convention
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours
Qualifications: keep up with what members are doing for association/optometry/individually as it relates to award criteria. Committee members should commit to awareness of awards and submit nominations ahead of time. Nominations should be submitted via form questionnaire in order to be fully vetted prior to conference call.
Support Provided: staff support; list of past recipients; board recommendations
Task: Award deserving members of the Association using pre-established awards descriptions.
Timeline (based on weeks out before spring convention)
January & February – solicit award nominees in newsletter
8 weeks out – awards conference call to discuss nominees and solicit from committee – can ask for more information from nominees or those who nominated them if needed
7 weeks out – second conference call if needed to determine award recipients
6 weeks out – ArOA office send letters to award recipients
6 -7 weeks out – ArOA office order awards
4 weeks out – ArOA office - list award recipients with bio and picture in newsletter and on website
Spring Convention: Give out awards – given out at awards luncheon; Awards chair writes script and serves as emcee.
8 weeks out – awards conference call to discuss nominees and solicit from committee – can ask for more information from nominees or those who nominated them if needed

ArOA board is installed. Outgoing and incoming ArOA Presidents make speech. Past Presidents pass the gavel. AOA Trustee installs board.
