National Legal Legislative Committee
Committee Mission Statement: The mission is to maintain communications and encourage member involvement between AOA-Washington and state members on national legislation and issues that could affect the Association and members. Secondly, to be involved in national legislative campaigns and promote the American AOA-PAC.
Strategic Plan Goals related to National Legal Legislative Committee
- Goal: ADVOCATE - The voice of optometry and eye care through government relations.
- Strategies: Issues Management - Monitor evolving issues to develop positions that proactively advance and preserve optometry and be prepared to respond to legislative and legal challenges.
Committee Membership Responsibilities
- Key Responsibilities: Group decision making; possible outreach to ArOA members via phone calls or face-to-face meetings to solicit PAC contributions or discuss national issues; solicit members to make calls to Arkansas legislators when needed; lead as example when called to action from AOA to call U.S. legislators on issues.
- Expected Timeline: As needed throughout year – expected 2-4 conference calls plus e-mails.
- Reports to: Chair
- Time Commitment: As needed – mostly calls and/or emails to legislators – possibly total of 5-10 hours per year.
- Qualifications: Knowledge of national issues and federal legislators from Arkansas.
